*EXCLUSIVE* - MR. SEXTON RESPONDS

After reading all of the disparaging remarks about Mr. Sexton, the Principal at Jeffersonville High School and the way he is treating his staff and students and running the school, I felt it was only fair that he have a chance to respond.

I emailed Mr. Sexton and sent him a link to the Clark County Chatter along with copies of the many posts directed at and about him.  I explained to him that I felt he should know what some of his staff are saying about him and gave him the opportunity to respond on my Blog.  Here is his response to my email.  Thank you Mr. Sexton for your prompt reply:

Good morning,

Thanks for the opportunity to defend, but I believe that it would only create more chatter.  Some of the adults in this building do not want change and will resist no matter what.  I am asking for the students and the staff to raise the bar on academics, appearance, language, behavior and overall respect for the Jeffersonville High School community.  We will certainly reach that goal, but not without the loss of some of the staff who want to remain in the “academic cellar” of state academic scores and numbers of graduates going on to the next educational level.  Clark County has a very high percentage of under thirty five who do not have a high school diploma.  I know a large percentage of those students over the last seventeen years were Jeff High students.  I feel very bad about that and want to slow down and hopefully end the dropout problems here at Jeff High.  We have already eliminated the large expulsion numbers of the past by developing alternative programs and other methods of discipline rather than the expulsion process.  We of course still have the expulsion available if it is needed for someone who might be dangerous to other students or staff.  I do not wish to defend my actions in the operations of a very large educational effort, I would rather the community appreciate the change that will come.

I am thankful for Mr. Sexton. I only wish the principal of Jeff High had cared as much when I went there. It is about time that the faculty steps up and helps more of our kids in Jeff to be successful. If it had not been for Ms. Baker, the spanish teacher, squawshing my dreams I may have went to college right out of high school. Oh well, that was the past. I am now very successful, no thanks to her crappy attitude.

Anonymous we all had our share of good teachers and bad teachers, luckily I had mostly good teachers. One in particular who probably inspired me to become what I am today. Sounds like Mr. Sexton has good intentions, sometimes it is just hard for staff that has been there a long time to accept someone new in charge. Teachers don't like being told what to do, plain and simple.

Unless you are a teacher actually at JHS you have no idea what we have to go through with this man. We want what is best for our school but thats the problem we think he is causing more hard than good.

You are right anonymous, I guess you would have to be. But getting on a forum and making statements such as this:

"I am ashamed to even be an employee of such an inane school corporation and can only hope that the school board will intervene soon before more and more insanity infects our schools"

absolutely serves no purpose except make you seem like a bitter spoiled child.

Pegasus8 you are such a coward. All you ever do is spew off at the mouth things you would never have the balls to say to Mr. Sexton's face. I am ashamed that you are a teacher that actually has had the opportunity to influence some of the GCCS children. Please do everyone a favor and find another profession.
